The Carer Friendly Business Awards recognise outstanding service that has made a positive impact and difference to someone in their caring role or for employers who demonstrate an understanding of the needs of a carer.

Recipients of the 2019 Carer Friendly Business Awards are:

  • Carer Friendly Employer - City of Palmerston Library
  • Carer Friendly Service - Darwin Ice Skating Centre
  • Carer Friendly Employee – Ellen Wotley, ARRCS Community Care in Alice Springs

Marie-Louise Pearson, Carers NT Director and a member of the judging panel, said that each of these businesses demonstrated a compassion for carers that we could all learn from.

“Having businesses that understand the needs of carers is vital, as a society we need to be more understanding, more accommodating, and more flexible in how we interact and support carers. These Awards focus on the businesses and people that go above and beyond the call of duty. Congratulations and thank you for the contribution your make.”

The Carer Friendly Business Awards are held in the Northern Territory during National Carers Week and recognise professionals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of carers.

Carers NT CEO Steve Vitone also congratulated all nominees in the Awards.

“With an estimated 30,000 carers in the Northern Territory, nearly everyone knows someone who’s a carer or relies on one, and it’s inevitable that each of us will be a carer or be cared for at some stage of our life.

“These Awards acknowledge the extra step businesses and people can take to provide employment support or service to our carers, I commend them.

“At Carers NT we have a vision to be part of a community in which carers are recognised and valued as a significant asset in which they have access to timely and appropriate services. Thank you to these businesses and individuals here tonight, you are helping make that a reality.”
