Carer Friendly Business Awards

The Northern Territory Carer Friendly Business Awards are now open!

These Awards recognise outstanding service that has made an impact and difference to someone in their caring role or for employers who demonstrate an understanding of the needs of a carer.

There are three categories in the Northern Territory Carer Friendly Business Awards:

  • Carer Friendly Employer is a business that employs a carer (usually the person nominating them)
  • Carer Friendly Service is a mainstream business, (eg banks, mechanics, florists, pharmacies, doctors) OR a registered service provider or not-for-profit organisation that may be directly associated with the health and community care services sector (eg Regis, Life without Barriers etc)
  • Carer Friendly Employee is for employees of a company or service provider that go the above and beyond standard business practice in helping carers.

2018 Carer Friendly Service Award recipient, Vickie Miller of Nightcliff Plumbing and Gas, said that “Winning the NT Carer Friendly Business Award means we have been able to make a positive difference in the lives of carers and their families who more often than not, find themselves in financial, emotional and physical difficulty.”

“We were extremely surprised to receive the nomination and very honoured to have received this award.”

Other recipients in the 2018 Awards were GHD for Carer Friendly Employer, and Dr Sandy Smirk at Royal Darwin Hospital for Carer Friendly Employee.

The Awards aim to encourage businesses in the Northern Territory to do more for carers – to be more understanding, more accommodating, and more flexible.
