Engagement with the Disability Royal Commission – Submissions Close 31 December 2022

The Disability Royal Commission (DRC) Community Engagement team has a current focus on Supported Independent Living (SIL)/group homes and is eager to facilitate events/meetings where voices from the NT community are captured about what has/is working and what hasn’t/don’t. Saskia and I are based in Darwin and are keen to engage with former and current clients, staff, Carers, families, friends, guardians, advocates and others with experience with SIL in a safe environment. Stories might be from long ago, current, or people’s future concerns/hopes and not necessarily confined to their SIL/group homes experience. As mentioned, this may include a person’s experience more broadly throughout their lives accessing/navigating services, goods etc- what worked and what could have been improved, and the outcomes. We can assist people to share their stories (make a submission) which can be provided in many forms as discussed, via art, music, recordings, writing etc including through the use of interpreters.

Some stories might be considered ‘small’. However, we are committed to hearing as many views and anecdotes as possible in order to provide rich information to the Disability Royal Commission (DRC) to inform its final report and recommendations. Submissions close on 31 December 2022.
